Woman as Monster

This is an image that graces the cover of a new documentary about intersex individuals called Black and White.


In general, though, I think it's a really powerful image that refuses to accept that women who are not young, with a teenage girl's body, and a submissive attitude are somehow offensive.

This image reminds me of a photograph by Jo Spence after her lumpectomy, in which she opens her hospital gowned to show the world what has disease has done to her body. The word "Monster" is written across her chest. An article about this work is available here http://www.varoregistry.com/articles/monst.html its an interesting comparison, and likewise says a lot about health, femininity, and the human body.

i think she (he?) is beautiful.

and i'm not just saying this to be accepting or to show how politically correct or whatnot i am.

i think she is beautiful.
