One of the frames for Obama and his candidacy that Wendy's post didn't cover involved the extent to which he does whiteness (and the degree to which we approve). I saw a white 2nd grader at my school wearing this shirt and was really confused, because it seemed unlikely that he got this joke. And as my partner pointed out, it's supposed to be all hip and making fun of Joe Biden and white racism, but it does it by making Joe Biden invisible and Obama very, very visible. Since a pretty well-informed teacher with me hadn't ever heard of Joe Biden's comment, how many people ARE going to know the whole deal with calling black people clean and articulate?
